I did not start as a runner, but once I discovered long efforts, I was hooked. Running is the through line, supported by strength training, cycling, skiing, and time outside. I’ve chased distance and discovery, finishing fourth female at the Cocodona 250, running 290 miles from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, earning first place female at Rim to River 100, and playing with FKTs. My spirit animal is a mountain lion. Their power, intention, and physical strength within the animal kingdom mirrors the balance of body, mind, and spirit in the human realm.

Shelby Farrell's Expert Gear Recommendations
The gear I used for Cocodona 250
I’ve been part of Cocodona since the inaugural race in 2021, from racing to crewing, pacing, and livestreaming along the way. After finishing 4th female in 2025, this is the gear I’ve come to rely on through every side of the experience.
- Petzl Swift LT Headlamp Black by Petzl — I love this tiny torch because it stashes so easily, I’ll often keep it in my back pocket so I’m never without a headlamp. It’s also the perfect complement to a waist belt setup, giving you light for climbs when you need to look up. The updated version of the Petzl Bindi, it’s about as minimal and functional as it gets.
- ULTRATRAIL FX.ONE by Leki — These were my first-ever poles, bought for the inaugural Cocodona 250. They quickly became an extension of me — I didn’t even want to put them down after the race. Obsessed.
- Nathan Pinnacle Pro 12 L Hydration Vest by Nathan — With a mandatory 4L water carry and a notoriously tough first 37 miles, this vest handles it all.
- Way Out 5 Panel Hat by Turtle Fur — Shade + hair management, because things will get a little disheveled out there. This hat kept my hair in check and my face protected, and the adjustable cordlock means it stays put even when the wind picks up.
